England vs Italy: Police in riot gear break up crowds of England fans as 49 people arrested after Euros defeat
The i says riot police broke up crowds outside Wembley stadium and in London’s West End last night after England’s heartbreaking defeat against Italy in the Euro 2020 final.
A total of 49 arrests were made and 19 officers were left injured “while they confronted volatile crowds”, the Metropolitan police said.
At Wembley, beer bottles were thrown as fans departed the stadium after the loss and in Trafalgar Square there were “violent scenes” as large crowds tried to push into a fan zone.
