Callum Wilson may be sidelined for the rest of year with a hamstring injury as Newcastle’s injury crisis goes from bad to worse to terrible.

It is also said that Sven Botman’s return may be delayed to next year, with the Magpies defender weighing up whether to have surgery to deal with a knee problem.

In all, Newcastle have approximately 11 players in the treatment room, not to mention Sandro Tonali’s 10-month suspension for gambling breaches, while Lewis Hall cannot play their next game as it’s against his parent club Chelsea.

It was thought that some of the absentees would be back for the clash at home to the Blues on 25th November, but The Telegraph claim that only Alexander Isak will be fit in time for that.

And the Swede’s return could not be better timed, as it is reported that fellow striker Wilson is out for at least the next six weeks, meaning he may not be playing again until 2024.

Earlier this week, the 31-year-old pulled out of the England squad due to his hamstring injury, and having scored seven goals in 10 Premier League games so far this season, this is a massive blow for Newcastle.

Furthermore, it is said that Sean Longstaff is also a doubt for the Chelsea clash due to a swollen ankle, which leaves Eddie Howe low on midfield options.

    Newcastle absentee list:

    Alexander Isak – Groin injury

    Miguel Almiron – Thigh injury

    Sean Longstaff – Swollen ankle

    Callum Wilson – Thigh injury

    Harvey Barnes – Foot injury

Elliot Anderson – Lower back injury

Dan Burn – Lower back injury

    Jacob Murphy – Shoulder injury

    Sven Botman – Knee injury

    Matt Targett – Thigh injury

    Javier Manquillo – Groin injury

Lewis Hall – unable to play parent club Chelsea

Sandro Tonali – suspended for 10 months

To add insult to the many injuries, Botman was expected to be back in December having been sidelined with a knee injury since September, but his recovery is taking longer than expected.

Newcastle don’t want him to undergo surgery but that possibility is growing all the time, and if it happens he won’t be on the pitch again until at least February.

This injury crisis could not come at a worser time for the club, with their fixtures till the end of the year including Chelsea (in the league and Carabao Cup), Manchester United and Tottenham, as well as Liverpool and Manchester City in January.

And that’s not even mentioning their final two Champions League group games against PSG and AC Milan.

Despite the injury woes, the Magpies are impressively seventh in the table, eight points off leaders City, and though they are bottom of their UCL group there’s only three points separating the four sides.
