The Metro – England 2-1 Slovakia: SLOVA THE MOON
The Metro leads with England’s win at the Euros against Slovakia. Its report also includes some of the criticism of the game, calling the win an “unconvincing performance”. The front page features an image of Harry Kane – who put England ahead. Jude Bellingham scored an incredible overhead kick just minutes before England looked set to be knocked out in the last 16. Kane gave England the win in extra time.
England through to Euro 2024 quarter-finals after dramatic comeback vs Slovakia
England survived a huge scare at Euro 2024 as they needed extra time to scrape past Slovakia in their last-16 tie. Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane scored to become the Three Lions’ last-gasp heroes, but huge concerns remain after another disjointed display from Gareth Southgate’s side.
England were deservedly behind after another poor first-half performance saw Ivan Schranz put Slovakia ahead in the 25th minute.
Phil Foden had the ball in the net early in the second half but his close-range effort was ruled out for offside. Kane then missed a good chance with a header before Declan Rice hit the post, and it looked as though England were heading for a shock exit.
What Declan Rice shouted at Slovakia manager after England win at Euro 2024
Declan Rice called Slovakia head coach Francesco Calzona a ‘bald c***’ in the aftermath of England’s last-gasp win at Euro 2024 on Sunday.
Gareth Southgate’s side narrowly avoided a major upset as they looked on the brink of a 1-0 defeat to Slovakia before Jude Bellingham equalised in the 94th minute of injury time. Harry Kane then headed England in front in the first minute of extra time which sealed a 2-1 win for the Three Lions, who will now play Switzerland in the Euro 2024 quarter final on July 6.

Editorial 01 July 2024.
Monday’s front pages are dominated by two stories: the French elections and England’s National Football team.
The French headed to the polls on Sunday and as opinion polls predicted, the far-right National Rally (RN) party swept the first round of voting. The snap French elections have caused chaos in France – with many papers noting that Macron’s decision to call the election, appears to have backfired.
England’s last-16 match also features – with images of Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane on most front pages. England put in another poor performance, losing 1-0 to Slovakia before Jude Bellingham scored a stunning overhead kick to equalise – in the 95th minute. Captain Harry Kane gave England the lead just one minute into extra time.
Elsewhere, the papers also leave room for the upcoming UK general election – to be held on Thursday. There’s no surprise in how the papers cover the UK elections with the right-leaning papers warning Labour can’t be trusted on issues like defence, immigration and the economy and the left-leaning papers reporting on the 14 years of hell under the Tories and Labour’s promises of a brighter future.
