England 2-0 Ukraine: Superb Saka seals England win, as Three Lions have impressive start to Euro 2024 qualifying campaign
England continued their impressive start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a comfortable victory over Ukraine at Wembley. Following their first away win against Italy since 1961, Gareth Southgate’s team put in a solid performance to see off the visitors.
The team struggled to build momentum until Harry Kane scored his 55th international goal, bundling in Bukayo Saka’s cross before Saka himself scored a superb individual effort.
Leicester City’s James Maddison made a good impression on his first start for England, while Ivan Toney won his first cap as a late substitute.
Saka, who has been outstanding for Arsenal, continued to impress and confirmed his status as a young talent with a bright future.
Southgate will be pleased with his team’s performances in their first two games, securing maximum points against tough opposition.
England are the favourites to qualify at the top of their group and secure a place at the Euros in Germany, where they will be among the potential winners.
Superb Saka shines
Saka was the standout performer in a game where England struggled for 37 minutes, and he was the driving force behind their eventual victory. He gave the Ukraine left-back a tough time, and his inviting cross allowed Harry Kane to score his 55th goal for England, extending his all-time scoring record.
Saka’s moment of brilliance came three minutes later when he cut in from the right and curled a left-foot shot into the top corner, beating the goalkeeper with ease. This goal effectively sealed the win for England, who now have maximum points from their first two qualifying games.
Saka is now one of England’s most valuable young players, alongside Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice, and is expected to be a key player for England until at least Euro 2024. He is already a world-class player in the making, and his progress shows no sign of slowing down.
