How long will this last? (Picture: ITV)
Last Christmas, Caleb Milligan (William Ash) made his way to the Emmerdale village and introduced himself as Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Cain Dingle’s (Jeff Hordley) brother.
Now, almost one year on, so much has happened.
Caleb is currently in the middle of an affair storyline with Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh). The two characters have attempted to avoid each other, but their sexual chemistry has become something they apparently cannot resist.
With the massive betrayal happening in the lead up to Christmas, actor William Ash has been teasing what’s ahead over the next few weeks, promising a huge twist to the story over the festive period.
‘I think it’s going to be quite explosive. It’s going to be really exciting, where it leads to. I don’t know how the writers are going to navigate it because it’s quite big, what happens. I’m really looking forward to it. There’s going to be a lot going on.’

‘It was a bit of a shock for me that they were going to be getting together’, he added, giving his reaction to the storyline.
‘In some earlier scenes when my character first met Tracy, when he was getting involved with ideas for the nursery and all that stuff, there was a bit of sexual tension between them anyway.
‘There was a slight frisson of something, whether she was attracted to the amount of money he had and the amount of doors he could open for her. So it was a bit of a shock but it feels totally motivated to me. All the building blocks were there, albeit very subtle I feel like they were there.’

Will explained: ‘I think at this stage it’s just a sexual attraction at the moment. I don’t think there’s feelings there in terms like being in love. I think it’s just pure lust, certainly at this stage. Caleb’s motivated a lot of the time by just wanting everything. If he knows it’s taboo and he knows it’s forbidden, he’ll go after it anyway. he knows he shouldn’t be sleeping with his nephew’s wife, but because he knows he shouldn’t do that, that’s what he wants to do. He’s obviously attracted to her physically as well.
‘She’s a beautiful young woman. At the moment it’s just pure lust and that thing of it being forbidden, the risk of it, the danger of it. He’s driven by that.’
Shortly after Caleb arrived, he was revealed to be Frank Tate’s son. Busy working with Nicky (Lewis Cope), Caleb was prepared to do anything in order to destroy enemy Kim Tate (Claire King), who left his dad to die.

As things started to fall apart for Caleb, his desperation increased. He was vile to his son and took his anger out on many villagers.
Afterwards, aware of his mistakes, Caleb then spent weeks trying to fix relationships with the people he hurt.
‘I knew that he’s one of those people, there’s a button in him that’s kind of self-destruct’, Will reflected.

‘I think he feels motivated because of his background and being abandoned as a baby and brought up in care, his dad didn’t want to know him and his mum didn’t really want to know him. So what he wants, he just pursues it. Because there’s a vacuum there, something missing in his emotional development so he just pursues things and doesn’t really think of the consequences. he’s selfish in that respect.
‘I find it interesting that he is internally wrestling with that as well, wrestling how he squares that with his conscience’, he added.

‘We all know those people. They’ve got problems, haven’t they? [laughs] He’s got problems, which motivates why he behaves that way, so he can have what he wants.
‘He’s really successful as a businessman and made loads of money and done it all off his own bat, so I think he naturally has that ruthlessness. he can just flick a switch and switch off from emotional consequences.’
