Amelia has been through a lot (Picture: ITV)
There are traumatic times ahead for Amelia Spencer (Daisy Campbell) and her dad Dan (Liam Fox) in upcoming Emmerdale episodes when Dan is charged with GBH after confronting a man who’s been harassing Amelia online and then in person.
The problems began when Amelia got involved in putting makeup tutorial videos on social media. Although she previously had a bad experience with social media which led to her having an eating disorder, it seems that Amelia hasn’t learned how to maintain her privacy online.
‘I feel like she’s kind of forgotten what happened to her last year and she’s not really taken into consideration how scary the situation is,’ Daisy Campbell told us. ‘I feel like maybe as time goes on she probably will see the dangers of what social media can cause.’
Amelia’s activities lead to her getting some increasingly disturbing messages from someone who turns out to be a man called Lloyd (Matt Sutton).

‘She actually thought he was someone else,’ Daisy explained. ‘She’s being tortured, not physically, but he plays with her head a lot. ‘When you watch it on screen when it finally comes out he’s played it very, very tricky where you’re sat there and you’re like, I don’t know how to feel about this. She’s confused, she feels bad, she doesn’t know what to do. She’s only young, this is a different situation for Amelia. The way he’s played it, it’s like he’s normal.’
Lloyd’s behaviour soon rings alarm bells for Noah (Jack Downham) and then for Dan, who tries to deal with Lloyd by reporting him to the police. When they aren’t interested, Dan attempts to warn Lloyd off with threats. The situation escalates, with Lloyd goading Dan who punches him with immense force, causing him some serious damage.

And rather than protect Amelia, Dan finds himself facing a possible prison sentence. Daisy described her character’s reaction to all this.
‘She’s shocked and I think confused. She’s quite angry because she’s trying to get her point across, not understanding why Dan’s done this. She’s frightened as well because it feels like her fault because she’s the one that started this whole social media thing.’

Angry with himself, Dan later lashes out at Amelia and they have a massive row in which he accuses her of being the cause of the whole situation.
‘It actually felt like my own dad was shouting at me,’ Daisy admitted. ‘Dan’s never flipped out at Amelia, she’s always the one to flip out and he takes control of the situation. In this situation he flips out at Amelia and it felt awful, it felt like I was actually getting shouted at. I saw a different side to the character of Dan as well. That needed to happen to bring up everything that’s going to happen.’

Daisy feels that this is a subject that needs to be covered, and it hasn’t been done before in a soap in the same way as the aftermath of Dan’s actions are explored.
‘I remember learning about this in year 8 and I remember hearing a story from a man who came in and a similar situation happened to his son,’ she recalled. ‘When we got called up to hear about it all we thought this is so good. It’s not really been done before in a soap.
‘I feel like it’s going to be a good one.’
