They’re finally moving forward (Picture: ITV)
When Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) first set eyes on Nicky Milligan (Lewis Cope) in Emmerdale there were a few things she didn’t know about him. The first was his real surname. If Gabby had known Nicky was a Milligan and had the same surname as mysterious newcomer Caleb (William Ash), she might have been a lot more suspicious of employing him to be her son’s nanny.
Being a Milligan was just one of the secrets that Nicky was keeping as he and Gabby embarked on a whirlwind romance that was soon leading to a marriage proposal and a wedding being planned.
What Gabby didn’t know was that Nicky’s romance with her was all a sham, set up by Caleb to help him to get revenge on Kim Tate (Claire King) for the death of Caleb’s father Frank Tate.
And she certainly didn’t know that Nicky was gay. That was the part that hurt her most when he finally confessed the truth on what was supposed to be their wedding day.

Not surprisingly given the circumstances, Gabby has spent the months since then passionately loathing Nicky for what he did to her. When he decided to stay in the village it only made things worse as she had to put up with seeing him on an almost daily basis.
To make matters worse Nicky had soon found love in the shape of Suni Sharma (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana), and a heartbroken and humiliated Gabby was seething so much she even tried to punch Nicky.

So seeing them sharing a friendly hug in Monday (December 4)’s episode was quite the turnaround, and it came in the aftermath of a horrible, violent event.
Gabby had gone for a night out with Suni and Ethan (Emile John), and in a club she got talking to a man called Mike. She was enjoying flirting with Mike, but when Nicky arrived and Mike realised that Nicky and Suni were a couple, his attitude quickly shifted.

It became clear that Mike was a vile, homophobic bigot. Outside the club he launched a vicious attack on Suni as his mates held Nicky back from helping. Ethan was also held back by a doorman and they could only watch in horror as Suni endured a prolonged and terrifying ordeal.

In the aftermath of this, Nicky came to check on Gabby at the Hide. She told him that she blamed herself for talking to Mike in the first place, but Nicky reassured her that the attack would have happened anyway and she wasn’t to blame.
With the pair of them united in their concern for each other and especially for Suni, they embraced – with Gabby apparently now prepared to forget her previous feud against her former fake fiancé.
