Nicky (Lewis Cope) the No-Surname Nanny has been a very busy man in Emmerdale recently. As well as having his official duties of looking after baby Thomas at Home Farm, he’s also been catering for the – ahem – appetites of Thomas’s mum Gabby (Rosie Bentham).
And let’s not forget that Will (Dean Andrews) asked him to keep an eye on Caleb (William Ash) for him. Added to which he might also be secretly working for Caleb, if theories are correct.
It’s a busy life indeed, but he’s young and enthusiastic and seems to have plenty of energy to spare for Gabby. After initially resisting her advances on the grounds that it would compromise his position as her employee, Nicky finally caved in and he and Gabby have been having secret assignations at Home Farm – almost being caught by Kim (Claire King) on one occasion.
So there’s stress for them both in upcoming episodes when Nicky’s contract is up for renewal and Kim has to decide whether she’s going to keep him on. If she decides not to renew his contract it’ll mean he has to move to another job – meaning that there’ll be no more meet-ups in the afternoons while Thomas is having his nap.

There’s enormous relief when Kim decides to make Nicky’s position permanent and he and Gabby are soon heading upstairs to celebrate in their traditional manner.
The next day they’re doing more ‘celebrating’ (well, it is good news, after all) when Gabby suddenly feels unwell and Nicky does a lovely job of taking care of her, which makes her doubly glad he’ll be staying around.
But when Caleb walks in and catches them red-handed as they’re getting passionate in the kitchen (did they teach Nicky nothing about hygiene at nanny school?) how will he react?
‘I think in an ideal world Gabby would like it to be open,’ actress Rosie told Metro.co.uk.
‘She cares about Nicky’s job and doesn’t want him to lose his job, he doesn’t want to lose his job. She wants Kim to not give them grief, she wants everyone to be happy for her.
‘I think Bernice and Laurel probably would be happy for her finally being serious with a guy who actually likes her back. But Kim would not take it well at all.
‘She’s just signed a new contract for Nicky to carry on because she’s impressed with his professionalism and things like that, so I don’t think she’d see sleeping with Gabby as very professional on his part. Which it isn’t, but Gabby would do anything for love with a boy.’
