Is it definitely all over? (Picture: ITV)
With Chloe (Jessie Elland) still unconscious in hospital following the catastrophic car crash in last week’s Emmerdale, Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) has been left with a lot on his mind.
The woman he purports to love is fighting for her life – with a risk that if she ever regains consciousness she could have brain damage. Meanwhile Mackenzie bears the guilty knowledge that when he had a chance to save her, he chose to save Charity (Emma Atkins) instead.
He’s doing his best to push to the back of his mind the obvious truth. In the moment of crisis, as the car they were in teetered on the brink of a cliff about to go over and Charity and Chloe both reached for him in a desperate bid to stay alive, he instinctively grabbed Charity’s hand and let Chloe remain in the car as it plunged off the cliff.
In Tuesday (October 17)’s episode Charity spotted him in David (Matthew Wolfenden)’s shop with Reuben. ‘You look terrible!’ she greeted him. He hadn’t been sleeping due to Reuben teething and Charity suggested asking someone to look after the baby while Mack had a rest.

When he said that Moira (Natalie J. Robb) and Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson) were both busy, Charity surprised him by offering to take care of Reuben for a bit herself.

Later on Chas (Lucy Pargeter) wanted to know what had made Charity ‘volunteer as Supernanny.’ More importantly, why wasn’t Charity following through on her pledge to give Mackenzie a wide berth?
Charity said that after the crash and everything that happened, it wasn’t that easy to cut someone dead. She then told Chas what had happened just before the car fell – that Mack had chosen to save her.
She said that Chloe doesn’t know about this yet, ‘But I know, and Mack knows. I can’t just pretend it didn’t happen.’

Chas was worried. ‘You seriously can’t be thinking about taking him back?’ she said.
Charity insisted that she was just telling her what happened. ‘Babe, there’s more chance of me joining a nunnery than there is getting back on that pony, okay?’
The question is – do we believe her? Or does she still, after everything that’s happened, glimpse a possible future for her and Mackenzie?
