Has he given up? (Picture: ITV)
With every search for Chloe (Jessie Elland) and Reuben coming up as a dead end in Emmerdale, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) really is a broken man at the moment.
Chloe vanished from the village with the baby after Mackenzie cruelly dumped her and went back to Charity (Emma Atkins) in the latest instalment of ‘who does Mack really love?’ – a long-running saga that has seen him alternate between the two women several times.
This time he says he feels absolutely certain about two things: that it’s Charity he truly loves and wants to be with long term, and that he desperately wants to have regular contact and an ongoing relationship with his baby son Reuben.
In Tuesday (December 5)’s episode he was in despair after Charity reported back that Ryan (James Moore)’s attempts to find any clues about Chloe’s whereabouts on social media had come to nothing.

Charity tried to reassure him that Chloe would ‘Do the right thing eventually’ and let him see Reuben. If not, they would find a way to track her down.
Mack told her that his last hope had been Matty (Ash Palmisciano) knowing something and telling him, but that clearly wasn’t going to happen. He’d done everything else he could think of to find Chloe and the baby.

So he’s reached a decision. He was going to give up the fight and sit back and hope Chloe would return. He said that he’d been neglecting Charity and Moses (Arthur Cockroft) because he was so fixated on looking for Chloe.

Later he and Charity bumped into Matty and Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson) in the village and Mack apologised for breaking into their home previously as he searched for clues. He told them he wasn’t going to hunt for Chloe any more.
‘I just want to put it behind me and move on,’ he said and asked them to do the same. Matty agreed, and Amy reluctantly also said she agreed.

What Mack doesn’t know is that Amy and Matty are perfectly aware of where Chloe is and Amy has even been to visit her in a flat in Leeds.
Although Mackenzie has decided to give up the search, there are further twists in store as Matty takes pity on his uncle and drops a hint that could lead to a breakthrough.
