There’s been a thaw in Aaron (Danny Miller) ever since he thought for a split second his mum Chas (Lucy Pargeter) had been shot in Emmerdale.
In that moment, he panicked that he’d lost her and demonstrated the minutest inkling of vulnerability.
It’s a hint his reign of terror is coming to an end, a reign that culminated in his mum disowning him after his cruel behaviour towards Ethan (Emile John).
Aaron used the lawyer for sex, and when Ethan was nicely caught in his trap, Aaron humiliated him in front of everyone.
Even worse was the fact Ethan was going through his own hard times, having lost his job at the firm over defending Suni in a homophobic attack. Aaron’s behaviour had been the final straw for Chas.

But now that chink in his armour has weakened the rest of his resolve, it opens him up to even more vulnerabilities – and Ethan is set to have the last laugh.
Aaron is in need of help, and he turns to the one person who he knows is such a good Samaritan that they’ll help no matter what – Ethan. Ethan nobly puts his past emotions aside to assist, but as payment for his good nature, Aaron takes advantage and tries to kiss him.

Affronted, Ethan storms off, but instead of his usual dirty smirk, Aaron is left broken by the rejection.

It’s an unusual look for him – is it another sign he’s shrugging off his thug life? With a huge cancer storyline ahead for Chas which is said to bring him closer to his mum, it looks like there might still be a nice guy underneath.

That said, perhaps we shouldn’t be too fooled. Not only has he brought most of his misfortune on himself, but there’s also a hint he may well have been involved in the crash that saw Heath die.
