Fans have been speculating for weeks, nay, months that Emmerdale’s Tom (James Chase) is a wrong’un and that Belle (Eden Taylor Draper) is at risk, but is this the biggest sign to confirm this theory yet?
Tom’s behaviour has been somewhat of a puzzle from the start of his and Belle’s relationship, but his latest actions will go further to compound the unease.
Theories are flying around that Belle and Tom are heading for a devastating abuse storyline, and his next move following their proposal gives credence to these hypotheses.
At times, Tom’s behaviour towards Belle has been downright alarming. From his aggressive reaction to her support after his car was stolen, to the time he shoved her into a coffee table and cut her head.

Each incident has been brushed off as he was under stress, or it was just an accident, but the fact Belle has kept them a secret is a red flag in itself.
‘I thought you could take a joke,’ was a quip of his when she called him out for making light of his failed proposal in front of the Dingles – a jab of criticism to undermine her self-confidence.

His controlling behaviour, however subtle, doesn’t seem to have been a blip.
After he accepted her proposal, Belle was shocked to discover he had posted it all over his socials without so much as discussing it with her, despite it being her news too.

Not to mention the fact that Belle felt pressured into proposing in the first place. After she said no to his initial proposal – for solid reasons – she became obsessed with the idea he wouldn’t want to marry her unless she proved her commitment to him immediately.
Now, in the long line of subtle oddities, Belle is in for a fresh shock – Tom reveals he has booked their wedding date without so much as mentioning it to her.

It’s something that betrothed couples usually joyfully work together on to select the perfect meaningful date.
