Is there a way out for Mackenzie? (Picture: ITV)
The situation for Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) was looking dire at the start of Thursday (December 21)’s Emmerdale. Still tied to a chair in an abandoned factory, it seemed he hadn’t eaten or drunk anything for days.
He asked Harry (Robert Beck) for water, and Harry responded by forcing a water bottle into his mouth and almost choking him. Things got even worse when Harry grabbed a big stick and told Mack to forget about Reuben. Mack said he wouldn’t.
‘Oh yeah you will,’ Harry said.
In the meantime Chloe (Jessie Elland) had turned on her phone and heard a message from Charity (Emma Atkins), frantic with worry after getting a strange message from Mack the previous day and not having seen him for days.

As soon as Harry got back home, Chloe demanded to know where Mack was. ‘Have you hurt him?’ she asked him. ‘is he dead?’
So Harry took his daughter to have a look for herself and the sight that greeted her was shocking. Mackenzie had blood around his eye where Harry had hit him, and was unconscious, slumped against the ropes that kept him on the chair.

While Harry had a piece of paper that was supposed to be a document signing away all of Mack’s rights to Reuben, thus sparing his life, Chloe knew that her dad meant to kill him.
Then Harry took a call and had to go to a meeting – but he passed his big stick to Chloe.

She may not have been ready to use violence against Mackenzie, but she was angry and we saw the side of her that came out before the car crash, when she was set on getting her revenge against Mackenzie and Charity after discovering they slept together before Reuben’s christening.
Now she had an even bigger grievance and told Mack how she’d felt about knowing that he’d left her to die when the car was about to plummet off a cliff and he instinctively reached for Charity and not her.

Chloe was seething now, looking every inch her father’s daughter as she called Mack ‘The scummy cheat that left me to die.’ She said that he’d thought by letting her fall he could have a happy family with Charity – and her son.
Mackenzie denied this and tried desperately to reason with her, asking her to think about Reuben and what she would tell him in years to come about his dad being dead. He told her he’d done some terrible things but he doesn’t deserve to die.

Mackenzie knew that Chloe was his only hope. Harry would most certainly kill him without a second thought, but for all Chloe’s anger she isn’t the sort of person who could have his death on her conscience.
At least, that’s what he hoped as he begged her, ‘Let me go. Because I’m not getting out alive unless you do.’
What will she decide?
