Emma Raducanu reaches US Open final with electric win over Maria Sakkari in New York
The i says Emma Raducanu is one win away from one of the most sensational grand slam victories of all time after beating Maria Sakkari in the US Open semi-final.
The woman who will be the new British No 1 on Monday by virtue of her run in New York has now won eight straight matches and if she wins a ninth against 19-year-old Leylah Fernandez on Saturday (9pm BST), she will become the first British woman to win a grand slam singles title since Virginia Wade, who watched on from the stands on Thursday night, in 1977.
Raducanu had been a narrow pre-match underdog against Sakkari, the French Open semi-finalist and the sixth best player in the world this year, but looked every bit the favourite as she took the first set in just 37 minutes for the loss of a single game.
