Ferrari Chairman’s Call for Focus Amid Constructors’ Battle
Ferrari’s double retirement during the Sao Paulo Grand Prix has sparked a rallying cry from chairman John Elkann, who urged the team’s drivers to concentrate on their performance rather than public commentary. Elkann stated, “We have drivers who need to focus on driving and talk less,” emphasising a return to the Italian team’s illustrious past in racing.
Leclerc Responds to Elkann’s Comments
In response, Charles Leclerc praised Elkann’s honesty, noting that the chairman’s remarks were intended to motivate rather than criticise. Leclerc described a recent conversation with Elkann, clarifying that the intention behind the “talk less” sentiment was a positive encouragement to enhance their competitive edge.
Current Standing in the Constructors’ Championship
Ferrari is currently embroiled in a tense battle for second place in the constructors’ championship. Following the disappointing results in Brazil, the Scuderia now sits in fourth, trailing third-placed Red Bull by four points and a substantial 36 points behind leaders Mercedes.
Leclerc Remains Committed
Despite the challenges, Leclerc remains optimistic and dedicated to returning Ferrari to the top. He reiterated the importance of teamwork, stating, “We are united… you can always do better,” and affirmed his commitment to taking any feedback as constructive criticism.
Building a Strong Relationship
Leclerc highlighted the rarity of honest communication within the competitive world of F1, praising Elkann for his straightforward approach. “John has always been extremely honest with me,” he remarked, adding that this open dialogue is crucial as the team navigates the pressures of the season.
A Unified Vision for the Future
Leclerc concluded by emphasizing the collective determination within Ferrari to improve results and achieve success, reiterating the positive nature of Elkann’s messages. “It’s very clear what he’s intending to say. That’s good for us,” he stated, as the team looks to regroup and focus on the remainder of the season.
