Eintracht Frankfurt send message to Liverpool over Omar Marmoush transfer

Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche has played down rumours Omar Marmoush could leave, insisting the sought-after forward ‘feels comfortable’ at the club.

Marmoush completed a free transfer to Frankfurt in May 2023 and the move has proved an exceptional piece of business for the Bundesliga outfit, with the 25-year-old notching 12 goals and six assists across an eye-catching debut season.

It has been a similar story at the start of this term, as Marmoush continues to take the German top flight by storm, and the Egyptian’s performances have caught the attention of some of Europe’s top teams, including Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

Recent reports emanating out of Germany claimed Liverpool had reached out to Marmoush’s entourage to make them aware of their growing interest in a potential deal for the free-scoring attacker.

Marmoush has been identified as a possible replacement for his compatriot Mohamed Salah, who is in the final year of his contract on Merseyside and has repeatedly hinted he could be on the move.

But Frankfurt are relaxed about the situation and are confident their star man is happy staying put for the time being.

‘I’m obviously pleased that he’s still scoring,’ Frankfurt’s chief Krosche said following Marmoush’s stunning winner against Slavia Prague in the Europa League.

‘I think Omar feels comfortable here so we shouldn’t always discuss the transfer window or possible transfers.’

It is believed Marmoush could be available for a fee of between €50m-€60million (£42m-£51m), but this sum is likely to soar should the Egypt international’s goalscoring heroics continue.

Marmoush already has ten goals and six assists to his name after just nine appearances in the Bundesliga this season. He has also netted twice for Eintracht in the Europa League.

The forward’s current contract at the Waldstadion runs through to the summer of 2027.

‘I don’t think I have seen a better free-kick,’ Eintracht manager Dino Toppmoller told reporters after Marmoush’s strike against Slavia Prague.

‘It was simply a perfect free kick. There was no room for a sheet of paper in between the post and the ball.’

Despite Liverpool’s rumoured interest in Marmoush, it is understood Arne Slot is hopeful of Salah extending his stay at Anfield beyond the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

‘Mo is in a very good place at the moment, as long as he’s been at Liverpool he’s been in a good place but this season again as well,’ the Dutchman said ahead of Liverpool’s win over Bayer Leverkusen.

‘What’s important for me is how he plays and what he tells me when we have conversations and that’s what matters and not how you guys interpret one of hissocial media posts.

‘He is out of contract at the end of the season and Virgil [van Dijk] said something in the past and now he has a post which you interpret in a certain way, this will probably continue for as long as their futures are not clear.

‘But in the meantime let’s hope they bring in the performances like Mo and Virgil had as well at the weekend.’
