Eddie Nketiah facing uncertain Arsenal future as Mikel Arteta prioritises new striker in transfer market

Eddie Nketiah could leave Arsenal if Mikel Arteta gets his wish of signing a new centre forward in January.

The forward signed a new long-term deal with the Gunners in 2022, when he was handed the legendary no.14 shirt.

Nketiah has battled Gabriel Jesus for a starting spot this term and he stated his case for a start over the Brazilian with a hat-trick against Sheffield United on Saturday.

However, Mikel Arteta remains keen on signing a new centre forward as he feels Jesus and Nketiah are both too goal-shy.

Ivan Toney, the Brentford striker, has been identified as a target but the Bees are seeking around £80m for the former Newcastle ace.

Nketiah was given no guarantee over playing time when he signed his new deal but he’s proven himself to be a capable deputy to Jesus.

However, should another international striker arrive, Arsenal will likely listen to offers for Nketiah.

The Daily Mail say the striker would not be short of suitors within the Premier League, and Arsenal could fetch a similar fee to the £40m they raised through the sale of Folarin Balogun.
