Toby-Alexander Smith has shared a picture teasing his new television role after his exit from EastEnders, where he portrayed Gray Atkins.
Gray was the husband of Chantelle (Jessica Plummer). They arrived in 2019 with their children, Mack and Mia, giving the impression that they have a perfect family set up, with Gray working as a posh lawyer and earning a lot of money.
However, behind closed doors, the story was completely different. Gray was abusive and controlling to Chantelle, who he went on to murder the following year, when a confrontation with Gray saw him push his wife onto an opened dishwasher, inflicting injuries from the cutlery inside.
As Gray covered up his involvement in Chantelle’s death, Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw White) was the next person to be killed by the evil man.

Because of Tina’s past with her abusive partner, she was able to work out that Gray killed Chantelle. Tina lost her life moments before she was going to reveal the truth, with her body then being found under the floorboards in the Argee Bhajee.
In 2021, Gray murdered Kush by pushing him in front of an oncoming Underground train. Gray had developed an obsession with Kush’s partner, Whitney (Shona McGarty) and, in an attempt to stop them leaving and starting a new life together, he killed Kush.
The conclusion of Kush’s life in Walford sparked major backlash for the EastEnders fans. Many argued that Kush deserved a better ending and pointed out a variety of plot holes in his final scenes.
Gray was arrested last year, when the truth about his behaviour and Kush, Chantelle and Tina’s deaths were revealed.
Now he’s behind bars, Gray won’t be heading back to Walford anytime soon.

Since he’s been away from the BBC One soap, Toby Alexander-Smith has mainly been focused on bringing up his young daughter, Bonnie, who he shares with Emmerdale’s Amy Walsh.
Now though, it appears Toby has stepped back into his acting shoes.
The actor shared a picture on his Twitter on June 25, writing alongside: ‘Who’s the new guy?’.
Toby can be seen wearing a costume that would suggest he’s been busy filming a period drama.
His many followers wondered if he’s going to star in the new series of Netflix’s Bridgerton, which is set to focus on Lady Whistledown and Colin Bridgerton’s romance.
Metro.co.uk has contacted Toby’s representatives for a comment.
Toby’s partner, Amy, will return to her Emmerdale role as Tracy Metcalfe soon after leaving the soap for maternity leave.
