Toby-Alexander Smith is best known to EastEnders fans as evil serial killer Gray Atkins, but his new role has seen him undergo a total transformation.
Toby is set to star in a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, called An American in Austen, where he takes on the role of Mr Bingley.
The actor took to Instagram to promote his new project, which comes almost two years after his EastEnders exit.
In the pictures, which show him in character as Mr Bingley, he looks worlds away from evil Gray, who was involved in some of EastEnders’ biggest storylines.
Fans were left horrified by evil Gray’s horrendous abuse of wife Chantelle Atkins, which tragically led to her murder in 2020.
He went on to also kill Tina Carter and Kush Kazemi, as well as making attempts on the lives of countless others, before finally pleading guilty to his crimes and being sent to prison in 2022.
Fans of the actor are looking forward to seeing his new role, with one commenting: ‘Eeek! I love you as Mr. Bingley! Yayyy! Congrats! Can’t wait!’
Others were big fans of his new look, with one writing: ‘Wow, you really look good.’

‘Suits you,’ another added, while former EastEnders co-star Lorraine Stanley, who is soon set to reprise her role as Karen Taylor, wrote: ‘Look forward to it!! You look charming.’
Toby’s soap star wife Amy Walsh, who plays Tracy Metcalfe in Emmerdale, also showed her support, reposting the pictures to her story with the caption ‘Proud wife alert’.
Toby and Amy tied the knot in a stunning ceremony last September, surrounded by their friends and family.

Emmerdale cast members including Natalie Ann Jamieson (Amy Wyatt), Olivia Bromley (Dawn Taylor), and Louisa Clein (Maya Stepney) were in attendance, as was EastEnders star Shona McGarty (Whitney Dean), who worked closely with Toby during his final scenes on the BBC One soap.
The couple share a daughter, Bonnie, who was born in 2022.
An American in Austen will air on February 17 on the Hallmark channel.
