Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) and Callum Highway (Tony Clay) are knocked for six in EastEnders when they receive word that one of their loved ones has been involved in an accident, with his fate unknown.
Jay Brown’s (Jamie Borthwick) life hangs in the balance following a tragic collision, after he sets off to Margate while under the influence.
The grieving widower has struggled to cope with Lola Pearce’s (Danielle Harold) death, much to the concern of both Ben and Callum, who worried about the effect his behaviour will have on Lexi (Isabella Brown).
Jay has, as viewers know, sought solace in the company of escort Nadine (Jazz Phoenix) in addition to taking drugs, hoping to take his mind of the overwhelming sense of loss he’s feeling.
Callum, however, was less than pleased to discover what Jay had been up to with Nadine, with Ben similarly enraged. Jay, therefore, turns to Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) in upcoming scenes.

Billy proves to be the support Jay needs, but Ben interferes, revealing all about Nadine, with Lexi overhearing.
Jay once again finds himself alone, with Ben and Callum subsequently shutting him out, wanting to protect Lexi. As a result, he tries to seek solace in the drugs, but Gina Knight (Francesca Henry) comes to his rescue, confiscating the substance.

Gina proves to be a shoulder of support, helping Jay come up with a plot to speak to Lexi and, despite Billy and Ben’s reluctance, it all goes to plan, as Jay has an honest conversation with Lexi.
But things soon spiral, with Jay taking drugs once again, with Ben and Gina subsequently finding him unconscious on the sofa. Billy is disgusted, with a huge row erupting between the two as Billy orders Jay out of their lives for good.

Jay decides to take a trip to Margate, with a devastating accident ensuing. The police arrive at the Vic looking for his next-of-kin, with Billy, Ben and Callum horrified to learn what has happened.
Matters are complicated further as the police refuse to divulge information on whether Jay is alive, given that none of them are his next-of-kin. Will Jay be okay?
