Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) stages her long-awaited return to EastEnders next week, with new pictures confirming a dramatic comeback for the much-loved character.
We wouldn’t expect anything less from such an icon.
The images in question see Sam being chucked out of the back of a van by a gangster, winding up face-first on the floor below. When she gets to her feet she’s notably wounded, sporting a cut on her cheek.
Phil (Steve McFadden) looks perplexed to see his sister in yet another dangerous situation, but just what has Sam got herself into this time? And will hard-man Phil be willing to help her out?
Sam, as viewers will recall, left the Square in early April after a year-long stint in the show, which saw actress Kim Medcalf reprise the role for the first time in 17 years.
Determined to support her son Ricky (Frankie Day), who was set to become a dad to Lily Slater’s (Lillia Turner) baby, Sam decided to take a job managing a hotel in Spain.

Ricky took the news badly as he’d enjoyed spending time with his mum and getting to know her properly, but he subsequently said a heartfelt goodbye, giving her a hug, as Sam got a taxi for the airport.
Sam will have a lot of catching up to do upon setting foot back in the Square next week, with Lily having given birth to her grandson Charli, named after Charli XCX, obvs.

Sam proved to be a fan-favourite during her latest stint in the Square, with actress Kim, who previously played the role between 2002 and 2005, winning over audiences with her iconic performances once again.
Despite EastEnders being at the top of its game right now, the show just hasn’t been the same without the best Mitchell (sorry Phil) and we’re counting down the days until she returns.
