Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is reminded of a family member’s death in upcoming episodes of EastEnders as he supports Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) ahead of his new storyline.
In an unexpected twist, Phil and Alfie are set to develop a friendship before Alfie’s discovery that he has prostate cancer.
Phil decides to invite Alfie for a kick about with Bert, Ernie and Tommy (Sonny Kendall), hoping he’ll open up about his upcoming MRI.
Alfie appears evasive about what’s ahead, but Phil reminds him that he needs to take his health seriously for his kids, reflecting on the fact that someone like Lexi (Isabella Brown) doesn’t have the privilege of having two parents.

Phil’s efforts aren’t enough during the football game so he tries again later in the week, telling Alfie that he’s going to get checked out as his dad Eric died of prostate cancer.
Fortunately, Alfie decides to head to the hospital for his test and later thanks Phil for the support.

Discussing this new storyline, EastEnders’ Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw said:
‘When we first embarked on this storyline, we knew it was imperative that we worked alongside Prostate Cancer UK and Macmillan Cancer Support to take on and accurately portray such an emotional and pivotal storyline for Alfie, and one that many viewers may relate to.
