Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) was left reeling in EastEnders to find out that Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) is getting married tomorrow.
Alfie, as viewers know, made his long-awaited return to the Square last month, and he wasted little time in setting out to win back Kat’s affection.
Kat, meanwhile, has reiterated that she’s intent on marrying Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), which has resulted in Alfie upping the ante in his plot to win her back.
Monday’s (October 10) edition of the BBC One soap saw the former landlord of the Queen Vic make numerous gestures in a bid to woo Kat, but every single one of them backfired.
Some advice from Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), however, led him to realise that he needs to stop living in the past and accept that Kat has moved on, and therefore he admitted defeat, reiterating to Kat that he will always love her, but he’s happy to be her friend.
Kat was taken aback by his change in attitude, but her attention was soon elsewhere after learning that Phil had made contact with Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) – and yet he continued to be radio silent with her.
Feeling betrayed, she decided to focus her attention on Alfie, as she entered the pub to take up his offer of a free drink – showing that she was willing to give him a chance to be her friend.
Alfie was over the moon, no pun intended, as he set about getting Kat the drink she’d ordered, all the while delivering a passionate speech about friendship.

Things, however, took a shock turn when a young woman entered The Vic to remind him that he’s due to get married tomorrow.
The question is: just who is he getting married to? Is it someone we know? Or is it someone he’s met during his three-year stint away from the Square?
Only time will tell!
