Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) has been struggling terribly since the tragic death of wife Lola Pearce in EastEnders, and his methods of coping have been far from healthy.
Recent episodes have seen Jay turn to ketamine in a bid to numb his pain, which he sourced from escort Nadine (Jazzy Phoenix), who he later slept with after being kicked out of Ben and Callum’s (Max Bowden and Tony Clay) flat.
In the most recent instalment of the BBC soap, Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown) expressed her concerns for Jay after he failed to return home, and grew more anxious when Ben and Callum tried to change the subject, pointing out that this was just like what they’d done when they didn’t want her to know that Lola was ill.
Confused Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) soon demanded to know what was going on, and when Ben told him to ask Jay he set about doing exactly that.
When Billy arrived at the car lot, he found the office in quite a state, with Jay looking worse for wear inside.

Noticing how worried Billy was for his wellbeing, Jay came clean about his use of ketamine, leaving Billy totally devastated. He was quick to remind Jay of the sacrifices Lola had made to help keep him in Lexi’s life, and expressed his fury at how careless he was being.
Defensive, Jay pointed out that he had already lost everything, so Billy may as well cut him off like everyone else had done, though Billy soon saw sense and reminded him that he would never lose him.

After making them both a cup of tea, Billy expressed his sadness that Jay hadn’t come to him or Honey (Emma Barton) to talk about his grief.
Having had an emotional heart to heart about Lola, the pair headed to the pub, where they were soon joined by Ben and Callum, who wanted a family meeting.
However, their meeting soon turned to chaos when Ben interrupted an innocent conversation between Jay and Gina Knight (Francesca Henry) to accuse him of trying it on with her.

Though Gina stuck up for Jay, Ben continued his rampage, telling him to ‘take her upstairs’, before revealing that Jay had slept with a prostitute, leaving Billy furious.
Despite what he had said earlier, Billy felt betrayed by Jay’s actions, feeling as though he had been lying about mourning Lola all along, and refused to let him see Lexi, before turning his back on him himself.
With Jay truly alone, will he ever be able to win his family back around?
