Eamonn Holmes took the chance to cheekily ask Queen Elizabeth II if he could interview her – and she laughed in his face.
The former ITV star, 63, received an OBE in 2018, and went to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen herself as part of the honour.
And in the brief moment he had with her, he decided to take the very rare opportunity to ask for an interview.
He recalled the awkward story with good humour, saying most of those who receive an OBE got around a minute and a half to speak with the monarch, but his risky ask meant he only got ‘about 20 seconds.’
She herself opened the conversation, noting he must have interviewed a lot of people in his line of work.
To which he responded: ‘I have ma’am, I’ve interviewed almost everyone in your family with one exception.’
He continued on the Blethered Podcast with Sean McDonald: ‘She said, “Really, who?” I said, “You ma’am.”‘

Seriously taking his chance while he had it, he pleaded with the Queen: ‘But we could fix that – I could just set up over there with that camera there and we could do an interview at the end of the stage here. And that would be it sorted and that would be a full house.’
As for the late monarch’s response, Eamon then did an impression of her laughing straight in his face.
‘She went: “hahahaha!” And she was holding on to my hand and she just pushed it back.

‘So I got about 20 seconds talking to her as a result. She must have been thinking, “Who is this mad Irishman!”‘
Eamonn happily laughed at himself while telling the story, with host Sean joining in as he joked the Queen was ‘probably two seconds away from swearing at him.
The GB News star also recalled being asked by Sky News to cover Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding, and being told that William himself had said ‘grandma will be happy’ to hear Eamon would be conducting it.
A delighted Eamonn recalled thinking at the time: ‘The Queen watches me on TV!’
Eamonn’s mother, however, was less easily impressed by the Royal family, as upon hearing her son would be meeting the Queen for his OBE, said: ‘Never mind that, any news I’d be interested in?’
