Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly were involved in an heated exchange in the aftermath of the British Grand Prix.
During the race, Gasly made a nice overtake on Sainz only for the Ferrari to get back the position at the following corner.
However, the Alpine driver took exception to the way his rival had passed them, feeling he was squeezed off the track somewhat as the pair approached copse corner at a speed close to 180mph.
On the team radio, the Frenchman shouted: ‘He can’t push me like that! F***, he didn’t give me any space!’
And post-race in the paddock, Gasly confronted Sainz while he was being interviewed by the Spanish media, pushing him on the shoulder as he walked past and warning him: ‘Don’t push me like that.’
A visibly confused Sainz simply grinned at the cameras and said: ‘Huh? Poor thing.’
The pair had recently had a coming together during qualifying in Canada, with Sainz impeding the Alpine star who did not mince his words in the aftermath.
‘Carlos did the worst job possible to stay completely on the racing line. For me, that’s completely unacceptable and unfair. I have no words to explain what happened.’
The Ferrari star would finish the race in a disappointing 10th, while Gasly retired with just a few laps to go after colliding with Lance Stroll he was returning to the track after botching an overtake.
The Aston Martin driver was given a five-second penalty for the incident, though many deemed this too lenient given that the crash damaged Gasly’s rear suspension and knocked him out of the grand prix.
‘I’m extremely disappointed to be taken out like that. It seems that everything went wrong for us,’ Gasly said on the matter.
Stroll meanwhile took no responsibility for his part in the collision and even joked that he would ‘meet him [Gasly] in the parking lot later!’
‘I got forced off the track both times I passed him, so I’m not really sure why I got a penalty because I was given no room. I got a track limits for one and I was forced wide and forced wide and then the next time I passed him again I was given no room.
