Diablo 4 microtransactions are super expensive with £23 armour sets

Players are criticising the seemingly steep prices of Diablo 4 microtransactions, insisting that it’s worse than Call Of Duty and Overwatch 2.

The newest addition to the Diablo series seems to have incorporated a more pronounced live service aspect, worrying fans about the prices of new cosmetics and skins.

Despite past assurances from Diablo bosses that the game won’t venture into pay-to-win territory, fans of the series remain sceptical. Since the in-game store wasn’t accessible during the Diablo 4 review process, critics were left to rely on Blizzard’s promised.

However, recently surfaced screenshots have revealed some steep prices for cosmetic sets, causing considerable concern in fan circles.

Shown in the picture below, you can see the pricing for various in-game character skins, including the cost of horse armour.

Yes, that’s right, horse armour has made its return, and this time it includes the horse itself, referred to as an undead mount.

As soon as Diablo fans spotted these prices, they were disappointed with their seemingly high cost.

‘A reminder to everyone the original horse armour that p***** everyone off was $1.99,’ one player responded.

It seems that a single armour set could set you back $28 (£23), assuming Diablo 4 adopts the standard 100 to $1 conversion rate for its in-game currency. The horse should end up as the equivalent of £13.

Ok with cosmetic cash shop, but $28 for one set?!

‘Yeah, I’ll never buy anything TBH, other than new expansions,’ was another player’s reaction.

This is seemingly the upper limit of what you might be paying for a single skin, but it’s still a pretty eye-watering price to consider for a game that already costs £70.

Another fan suggested that Activision Blizzard is ‘going hard on the microtransactions’ as evidenced by the recent addition of One Punch Man skins in Overwatch 2. Some of these bundles are priced at around £30.

‘More expensive than COD skins, as well,’ a different Redditor said.

In other corners of Reddit, fans argue that Diablo 4’s cosmetic prices could even be considered ‘fairly average’ in comparison to games like Path Of Exile – one of Diablo’s main competitors.
