More infectious ‘Delta-plus’ variant responsible for 10% of Covid cases
The Metro says a faster-spreading strain of the Covid-19 Delta variant that is ploughing through Britain is responsible for 10% of cases, a new study has shown.
Unlike with other variants, the formally known AY.4.2 is also less likely to cause the ‘classic’ symptoms of the virus like loss of taste and smell, a fever or a new persistent cough.
This means unsuspecting carriers, which now account for more than one in 10 in England, can easily pass it on – even if they are vaccinated.
