CITY AM – Death of the business card
The front page of the London business paper CITY AM reports Britons are ditching business cards, leading to predictions that they will soon die out altogether.
Death of the business card? More and more workers ditch the status symbol
The once-vital business card looks set to become a thing of the past in the UK after new survey data revealed a sharp decline in their use.
More than half of those who have previously used cards have given up their use since the beginning of the pandemic, the survey, conducted by Ipsos for City A.M., suggested.
The data reveals that despite the return to in-person schmoozing and face-to-face work meetings, Brits are becoming less interested in maintaining the age-old custom – making the card one of the most obvious working-life casualties of widespread shift to work-from-home.
IAG: British Airways owner to report record £3bn profit
British Airways and Vueling owner IAG is set to report a record €3.5bn (£3bn) annual operating profit next week after cashing in on the post-pandemic boom in travel demand last year.
Total sales are also expected to reach historic levels of €29.4bn, marking a 27 per cent year-on-year increase.
Flight demand soared in 2023 as consumers around the world started travelling again as Covid-era travel restrictions were dropped.
But despite a string of record results, shares in British airways parent company, which also owns Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling, have fallen around 10 per cent in the last 12 months.
Jurgen Klopp plays down quadruple after Liverpool pip Chelsea to Carabao Cup
Virgil van Dijk struck in the 118th minute of the Carabao Cup final as youthful Liverpool beat Chelsea 1-0 on Sunday to ensure a trophy in manager Jurgen Klopp’s farewell season.
Captain Van Dijk, who had an effort disallowed for offside during regular time, met a Kostas Tsimikas corner with a near-post header that broke the deadlock as penalties loomed.
Chelsea had their chances to win coach Mauricio Pochettino’s first silverware in English football but found Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in inspired form at Wembley.
Instead it was Klopp raising the trophy, his fifth major honour as Reds boss and the first of a potential quadruple before he steps down at the end of this campaign.
