Davina McCall falls down in shock as The Masked Singer reveals artist behind Kingfisher
As we inch closer to The Masked Singer UK 2025 final, the contestants are dropping like flies.
A double unmasking this weekend revealed the identity of Kingfisher, much to the shock of the judges and audiences at home.
Underneath the elaborate costume was none other than Sir Grayson Perry.
Previous guesses from the panel included You’ve Been Framed legend Harry Hill, comedian Bob Mortimer, and Joe Lycett.
This week, it was even suggested that Simon Cowell could be underneath!
So when artist Sir Grayson revealed his curly mop underneath Kingfisher’s head, Davina McCall fell back down to her seat in utter disbelief.
‘I would’ve bet my house that that was Harry Hill,’ declared Mo Gilligan.
Sir Grayson, 64, is famous for creating ceramic vases and tapestries in vibrant colours, hence the numerous arty clues in his VTs.
References to ‘style’ were a nod to his cross-dressing and to how his work often dissects British fashion. He also has a female alter-ego, often depicted in his work, who is named Claire.
Sir Grayson has appeared in many TV documentaries, hosted art exhibitions, and published two autobiographies.
In 2023, he received a knighthood for services to art.
Reacting to the unmasking, viewers took to X, with _AceOfGeeks_ joking: ‘i’m still not convinced that kingfisher wasn’t harry hill’, with Sir Grayson having admitted he ‘leaned into’ his impression of the comedian.
‘Grayson Perry as Kingfisher has been fantastic! Totally embodied the character & played the game brilliantly – first class Harry Hill impression. One of my favourite guesses and reveals ever’, praised jonconnell.
‘Speechless that Kingfisher was the incredible Grayson Perry. Convinced we could hear Harry Hill! What a fab sport to do this’, echoed KatyCutprice.
Speaking in a post-show Q&A, Sir Grayson confessed that he was well aware of the comparisons to another star.
‘I was playing that up massively because I know Harry Hill. I was playing (along), it’s fun, it’s a game! I thought I’d play the role of being a TV comedian!’
On being eliminated, he confessed to feeling ‘gutted’ to leave the show.
‘I had two really lovely songs lined up for next week. I was going to sing Feed the Birds from Mary Poppins, and there wouldn’t have been a dry eye in the place! I’d already been practising. I could hardly get through without blubbing.
‘And then I was going to do Stick Season by Noah Kahan. That’s a great song. Lots of words though. Very hard to learn but I had it nailed and I was really looking forward to it.’
He now joins the Unmasked club alongside a string of incredible names who all fooled the panel with their disguised voices and cryptic clues.
We began the series with Kate Garraway being exposed as Spag Bol, followed by Dame Prue Leith’s reveal as Pegasus.
The following week, music legend Macy Gray sent producers into meltdown when she stormed off stage ahead of being unveiled as Toad in the Hole.
After that, Tattoo removed her mask, and viewers were stunned to find 80s singing legend Carol Decker underneath.
And last weekend, Bake Off presenter Mel Giedroyc caused everyone’s jaws to drop to the floor when she was exposed as Teeth, since not a soul predicted she would be there.
Remaining in the competition now are Bush, Wolf, Bear, Dressed Crab, and Pufferfish.
They’ll continue performing in the hopes of being crowned the winner, while also fooling Davina, Mo, Jonathan Ross, and Maya Jama.
Unfortunately, Snail will not be joining them in the semi-final, having also been unmasked in a double whammy this Saturday.
She was unveiled as The Corrs musician Andrea Corrs, once again leaving the judges flabbergasted after they failed to name her.
The Masked Singer airs each weekend on ITV1 and ITVX.
