David Moyes throws his name in the hat for huge job with European giants

David Moyes has been linked with a remarkable move for his next role after his agent put him forward for the AC Milan job.

The Scot has been out of work since leaving West Ham at the end of last season but it seems like he has no plans to head into retirement just yet.

The 61-year-old has been linked with a return to former club Everton if Sean Dyche loses his job in the near future, but he fancies a more glamorous role than Goodison Park.

Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Moyes’ name has been put forward by his agent if Milan make a change in the dugout.

Current manager Paulo Fonseca was only appointed over the summer but it has been an underwhelming start to the campaign with just five points won from their first four Serie A games.

It was also a disappointing first outing in the Champions League as AC Milan took the lead early but ended up losing 3-1 to Liverpool at the San Siro in midweek.

This weekend sees AC face Inter in the Milan derby and reports in Italy suggest that Fonseca’s job is already under threat if that match goes badly for him.

If Fonseca is dismissed then Moyes would not be the favourite to replace him, with the likes of Maurizio Sarri and former boss Massimiliano Allegri more likely contenders.

Speaking about his future in June, Moyes told the Rest Is Football podcast: ‘I’m going to take a break, I’m not going to jump into anything.

‘I’ve had some really nice phone calls already asking me what I want to do. But what I want to do right now is take a bit of a break. I want to stand back and look at it again.

‘There’s loads and loads of young coaches out there just now and some exciting stuff. Some trends might go away, we’re seeing some things and we’re talking about it. We’re seeing it over here for the Euros as well, so I’m just going to take my time.’
