Dave Chappelle has become embroiled in gender controversy once again following a ‘transphobic’ social media post by politician and businesswoman Lauren Boebert.
The controversial comedian, 50, met with various lawmakers during a visit to The Capitol yesterday, posing for a selfie with Boebert and fellow US Representative Anna Paulina Luna.
Posting the picture to her Instagram page, Boebert bemusingly captioned the snap: ‘Just three people who understand that there’s only two genders 😄.’
Boebert has been embroiled in a number of anti-LGBTQ+ controversies, including misgendering Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness Shawn Skelly, the highest-ranking transgender official at the Pentagon during a House debate.
A source claimed that the comedian had ‘no intent on getting political with the photo op, and it was a spontaneous moment’, reports TMZ.
It comes after the Half Baked actor faced a backlash over his own comments on gender made in his Netflix special Closer.

Chappelle sparked outrage with his comments in his programme, in which he said he was ‘team Terf’ – the acronym for trans-exclusionary radical feminist – while also saying ‘gender is a fact’.
In addition, Dave shared his backing for JK Rowling following her own backlash regarding the transgender community.
After the stand-up comic’s Grammy nomination sparked mixed reactions, recording academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr told The Hollywood Reporter: ‘We don’t control who the voters vote for.’
He has since doubled down on his jokes but did say he was willing to meet Netflix’s trans employees to discuss the backlash. Netflix also backed Chappelle and refused to remove The Closer despite a petition.
Fans, celebrities and Netflix employees alike sent furious backlash, and some employees staged a walkout from the Netflix Los Angeles office as they protested against the comedy show and campaigned for more intersectional content.

Chappelle was later attacked on stage during his set at the Hollywood Bowl as part of the Netflix Is A Joke tour when a man – named by LAPD as Isaiah Lee – stormed the stage and tackled him.
The LAPD later confirmed that a 23-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after the incident.
The alleged attacker went on to say he was ‘triggered’ by Chappelle’s jokes about the LGBTQ+ community and homelessness.
He told the New York Post: ‘I identify as bisexual … and I wanted him to know what he said was triggering.
‘I wanted him to know that next time, he should consider first running his material by people it could affect.’
