Dan Evans overcomes rain delays and injury concerns to reach US Open third round
The i says Dan Evans is into the third round of US Open but it was not without some drama, as he was forced off court by passing rain showers twice and then hit apparent injury problems in the fourth set.
Evans, No 24 seed, was expected to dispatch world No 64 Marcos Giron and reach the third round for a fourth time, especially having beaten him in straight sets when they met in Australia earlier this year.
The British No 1 and the only remaining British player in the singles draw won the first two sets with relative ease but then dropped the third and seemed to be struggling with a foot problem during the fourth set.
