Coronavirus: US overtakes China with the most cases
BBC News says the United States now has more confirmed cases of coronavirus than any other country, with more than 85,000 positives tests.
According to the latest figures, the US has overtaken China (81,782 cases) and Italy (80,5589).
But the US death toll (1,300) is still behind China (3,291) and Italy (8,215).
The grim milestone came as President Trump predicted the nation would get back to work “pretty quickly.”
The President said the latest figures were “a tribute to the amount of testing that we’re doing.”

France reports new spike of 365 daily coronavirus deaths
France24 says French health authorities reported 365 new deaths from coronavirus on Thursday, taking the total to 1,696.
The rise in the number of deaths represents a daily rise of 27 per cent, a marked increase from the previous day with France now in its second-week of lockdown.
The daily government tally only accounts for those dying in hospital, but authorities said they would soon be able to compile data on deaths in retirement homes, which is likely to result in a big increase in registered fatalities.

UAE announces overnight curfew for nationwide ‘weekend disinfection’
RT News says The United Arab Emirates will impose overnight curfews as a temporary measure this weekend to carry out a nationwide disinfection campaign starting Thursday to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
The regional business hub, which has confirmed 333 cases of the virus with two deaths, has not announced an official curfew or work suspension but has increasingly clamped down on movement, Reuters said.
Authorities said that the UAE will restrict the movement of traffic and people overnight from Thursday until Sunday.

Canada asks US not to put troops at the border during coronavirus outbreak
Fox News says Canada has turned down a proposal by the United States to put troops at US-Canada border during the coronavirus outbreak. Canada argues such a move would be unnecessary given the low amount of illegal crossings and it would damage relations between the longtime allies.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday his government has been in discussion with the White House about convincing the US not to do it.
“Canada and the United States have the longest-running un-militarised border in the world and it is very much in both our interests for it to remain that way,” Trudeau said.

Thailand reports 91 new coronavirus cases and one death
Arab News says Thailand has reported 91 new coronavirus cases and one death, bringing the total number of cases to 1,136 and 5 deaths, a health official confirmed on Friday.
The latest death was a patient in Narathiwat province bordering Malaysia, the health official said.
The new infections consist of 30 patients linked to previous cases and 19 cases including imported ones, said Anupng Sujariyakul, a senior expert in preventative medicine at the Disease Control Department.

Coronavirus: Elton John to host ‘living room’ gig featuring Billie Eilish and Mariah Carey
Sky News says Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys are among stars taking part in a fund-raising “living room” gig hosted by Sir Elton John to provide entertainment during isolation.
The stars, who are staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic, will film themselves performing on their own mobile phone or camera and audio equipment “to ensure the health and safety of all involved,” according to a statement.
The hour-long concert will pay tribute to health workers on the frontline of the fight against COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and fans will be able to donate to charities helping victims and key workers.
