Major quake hits the Caribbean, triggering evacuations
Arab News says a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Tuesday in the Caribbean between Jamaica and Cuba, triggering a brief tsunami alert and hundreds of people pouring onto the streets of Havana.
Tremors from the earthquake were felt on the US mainland, where police in Miami evacuated some buildings as a precaution.
The US Geological Survey said the quake hit a depth of 10 kilometres at 2:10 pm local time.
There were no immediate reports of causalities or damage, and it is believed there was a low likelihood of either.

‘A new Balfour’: Palestinians angered by Trump’s Middle East plan
Aljazeera news says President Trump’s Middle East plan has been denounced by Palestinians as a “new Balfour Declaration.”
The plan, the so-called “deal of the Century”, was unveiled on Tuesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu standing by Trump’s side at the White House.
Trump introduced the proposal as a “win-win solution” for both Israelis and Palestinians. And said the deal would ensure the establishment of a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Indian PM Modi says it would take the Indian Army 10 days max to ‘make Pakistan bite dust’
RT News says Indian PM Narendra Modi has said the Indian military could take out neighbouring Pakistan within a week – 10 days at most. Both regional rivals are nuclear-armed powers.
On Tuesday, Modi spoke of the “inaction” of his predecessors who were reluctant to use military force against Pakistan. He said when India’s top brass “asked for action”, the political leadership “would not go ahead” but instead they conducted “a proxy war” with Pakistan as a law and order issue, rather than one requiring a military solution.
Modi made it clear that he believes Pakistan would not stand a chance if a military confrontation broke out between the two.

French student Instagrams life in Wuhan under coronavirus quarantine
France24 says a French student in Wuhan, China – the epicentre of the deadly coronavirus – has been taking to Instagram to tell the world what it’s like to live in the city which is currently under quarantine by Chinese officials.
Amelie Chapalian has been studying international relations at the University of Wuhan for the past four years. Earlier this month, Chinese authorities quarantined Wuhan and three other cities after the outbreak of the coronavirus.
“I’m putting it in perspective: I’m healthy, I’m at home and I still have food,” she said.

Pompeo flies to UK for talks amid US Huawei concern
BBC News says US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is flying to Britain for talks amid American concern at the decision to allow Chinese tech giant Huawei to have a role in the UK’s 5G network.
Pompeo previously said Huawei equipment posed a spying risk, adding the US “won’t be able to share information” with nations that used it.
But Dominic Raab denied the decision will affect UK-US intelligence-sharing relationship.
The US State Department said Mr Pompeo’s visit was an opportunity to “reaffirm the special relationship following the UK’s departure from the EU and discuss ways to broaden and deepen trade ties.”
The case of Harry Dunn is also expected to be discussed.

Selena Gomez talks about moving past emotional abuse
CNN says pop star Selena Gomez said she experienced emotional abuse during her on-again, off-again relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
In an interview with NPR, she discussed her ups and downs with Bieber and their final goodbye in March 2018.
“I’ve found strength in it,” she said. “It’s dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I’m not being disrespectful, I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse.”
When asked if she specifically meant “emotional abuse,” she responded, “Yes.”
