Arab News says a bus collided head-on with a truck in southern India early Thursday, killing at least 19 people and injuring 23 others, police said.
The collision happened near Avanashi, a town in Tamil Nadu state, the Press Trust of India news agency said.

Two die of coronavirus in Iran, first fatalities in the Middle East
Aljazeera says two people have died in Iran after testing positive for the new coronavirus, according to health officials. The deaths on Wednesday were the outbreak’s first fatalities in the Middle East.
“Two elderly people have died due to coronavirus in the city of Qom, south of Tehran,” Alireza Vahabzadeh, an adviser to Iran’s health minister, told Al Jazeera on Wednesday.
“The two victims had suffered acute lung infections due to their infection with the coronavirus,” he added.

At least 8 killed in shootings in western German city of Hanau
France24 says at least eight people were killed in a drive-by shooting at two shisha bars late on Wednesday in the German city of Hanau, according to local media.
A further five other people are believed to be seriously injured in the attacks in the Kesselstadt district of the city, which is east of Frankfurt.
The first shooting occurred at the “Midnight” bar in the centre of the city around 10 pm police and reports said.
The attacker, or attackers, then fled the scene by car, said the police. There was a second shooting at Arena Bar.

‘Horrific accident’ 3 killed, 10 injured after crane collapses on ‘Indian 2’ movie set
RT News reports a major accident on a film set in India has killed three crew members and left 10 others with serious injuries after a massive crane tipped over and crashed down on the movie lot.
The crane fell as crew members worked to build a set for an upcoming action thriller, ‘Indian 2’, at the EVP Studios in Chennai on Wednesday night. The injured were transported to a hospital for treatment and firefighters cleared away debris.
The aftermath of the disaster was captured in images that surfaced on social media, showing wreckage from the downed crane.

Storm Dennis: UK set for a month’s worth of rain in 24 hours amid floods
BBC News says deluged communities in parts of the UK are facing more heavy rain as they struggle to cope in the wake on Storm Dennis.
A month’s worth of rain in 24 hours is also forecast to hit north Wales and north-west England, falling on ground that is already saturated.
Nearly 120 flood warnings remain in place across the country.
The Environment Agency said there is a “heightened flood risk” across the Midlands, with six severe warnings – meaning there is a danger to life – still in place around the River Lugg, Severn and Wye.

Pakistan: Taliban leader who justified Malala Yousafzia shooting escaped military prison
Fox News says a Taliban leader who sanctioned the assassination attempt on Malala Yousafzai when she was only 15-years-old has escaped military prison, Pakistan officials said Monday.
The confirmation came days after Ehsanullah Ehsan, a former figurehead for the Taliban in Pakistan, announced on social media that he had escaped prison.
Ehsan claimed he had fled to Turkey, but Pakistan officials were unable to verify that, the AFP reported.

Rapper shot dead in house invasion in Hollywood Hills
Sky News says rapper Pop Smoke has been shot dead during a “house invasion” in the Hollywood Hills, according to US reports.
Nicki Minaj and 50 Cent are among those who have paid tribute to the 20-year-old musician on social media.
His record label, Republic Records, also posted a tribute, saying: “We are devasted by the unexpected and tragic loss.”
