Daily Express – Why were they taken from us?
The Daily Express says grieving families and friends of three schoolgirls stabbed to death during a dance class have been left devastated as to why such evil has been visited upon them. The paper calls six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar “angelic school girls” and asks: “Why were they taken from us?”
Online, the story also dominates as more details emerge.
Southport stabbings: Young man ‘refused to pay taxi’ before children killed at dance class
A young man ‘refused to pay for a taxi’ moments before a “frenzied attack” at a Taylor Swift dance event where two children were killed, according to an eyewitness.
Six children and two adults remain in critical condition as police continue to question a 17-year-old boy over a deadly knife attack in Southport yesterday.
The unnamed boy, from Banks in Lancashire and born in Cardiff, is being held on suspicion of murder and attempted murder following the attack in Hart Street, Southport, Merseyside Police said.
Colin Parry, the owner of the Masters Vehicle Body Repairs 50 metres or so from the incident, said he confronted a young man moments before the attack for not paying for a taxi.
Southport riot: 39 police officers and three dogs injured after protesters attack mosque
A shocking rampage in Southport has left 39 police officers injured after alleged members of the English Defence League attacked a mosque. This comes in the wake of the horrific knife attack at a dance class that tragically claimed the lives of three children.
The EDL members, under the mistaken belief that the 17-year-old attacker was Muslim, targeted a mosque and sparked a full-blown riot. The assertion that the murder suspect had ties to Islam was later refuted by officials, after misinformation about the name and origin of the attacker was spread online.
The violent incident on Tuesday evening (July 30) saw vehicles set ablaze, multiple police officers injured, and the local area devastated. Although crowds began to disperse around 10.30pm, the aftermath of the riot has left bricks scattered across the area, torn from garden walls.
The still-smouldering remains of the protesters’ arson attacks, which have destroyed a police van and several residents’ cars, have left a trail of smoke in the air – while three local families mourn their children who were killed in the attack, reports the Mirror.
