Straight afterwards, a man approached the cyclist and punched him in the face before leaving the scene.

Now, the police are investigating and have appealed to any drivers who may have been in the area at the time to come forward with dashcam footage.

Earlier this year, cyclist Ian Davies, 41, suffered a shattered collarbone and three broken ribs after ploughing into a wire strung across a popular pathway.

It happened while he was biking from the Chester Millennium Greenway along the England-Wales border on February 21.

After he somersaulted over his bike handlebars, he awoke having suffered a concussion, grazes, a broken collarbone and three broken ribs.

A wire trap at around waist height was spotted nearby, wrapped around a post and a fence on either side of the track.

It’s believed the trap had been purposefully designed to catch the handlebars of an adult bicycle such as Ian’s, who had been cycling at around 20mph.

Similar wire traps were spotted in Kent in 2020, where barbed wires at waist height were found laced across a public pathway.

While a cyclist in south Wales was yanked out of his bike and left cut up when he collided with a barbed wire booby trap placed at head height.
