Daily Mirror – Inside crumbling hospitals: This is why we need to vote Labour

    June 28, 2024

The Daily Mirror leads on photos from the flooded Stepping Hill hospital in Stockport. The paper calls it “Tory NHS neglect” and says “this is why we need to vote Labour”. Elsewhere, the tabloid also recaps all of the evidence and clues so far as the search for missing Lancashire teenager Jay Slater, who vanished on 17 June, continues on the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife. The Mirror also goes behind the scenes of England’s training camp in Germany as the Three Lions get ready to take on Slovakia in the last 16 of Euro 2024.

EXCLUSIVE: NHS in crisis: Hospital ceilings collapse causing seriously-ill patients to flee

The Tories have been accused of neglecting Stepping Hill Hospital in Greater Manchester which has suffered leaks, heating failures and crumbling buildings. The Mirror has now seen images of a flooded corridor and an intensive care unit that reveal just how broken the UK’s national health service is. One photo in the hospital, which is in the Cheadle constituency and has been held by the Conservatives since 2015, shows a dark corridor covered in sodden sheets that have been laid across the floors to try to soak up the water. Another is of a critical care unit with water raining through the ceiling panels and brown patches of liquid on the floor.

‘Rishi Sunak attacks Nigel Farage’ - Paper Talk

    Editorial 28 June 2024.

Friday’s newspapers are dominated by the general election and with less than a week until polling days, they are keen to force home their messages.

The traditional right-leaning newspapers are slamming Nigel Farage’s Reform Party – the true threat to the Conservatives at this election after members were recorded making racist, homophobic and Islamophobic comments. Other right-leaning papers are tapping into fears that Labour will end up with a supermajority if disillusioned Conservative voters decide to cast their vote for Reform.

The left-leaning newspapers, continue to push Labour’s plans if they are elected this July. These include plans to fix the NHS and close loopholes for private schools.

Other domestic topics, from celebrity news to football, are splashed on the front pages. The back pages lead on the England football team ahead of their Sunday clash against Slovakia.
