Daily Mirror – Crossbow horror: Together in grief
The Daily Mirror says loved ones have spoken of their anguish after a mother and two of her daughters were killed in a horrifying crossbow attack at their home. The front page calls on the government to give England a Bank Holiday if they win Sunday’s Euros final. The paper frames it as “Give us a bank Ollieday” – a play on Ollie Watkins – whose last-minute goal sent England through to the final.
Town devastated by three horror crossbow killings is ‘together in grief’
Loved ones have spoken of their pain after a mother and two daughters were killed in a crossbow attack at their home.
Carol Hunt, 61, who was married to horseracing commentator John Hunt, died with their daughters, Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, in Bushey, Herts, where a vigil has been held. Three of Carol’s close friends said: “We were a four, and now there’s only three. It doesn’t seem real. We are together in grief.” The Government says it is looking very carefully at new laws to outlaw crossbows.
Keir Starmer’s comments on a Bank Holiday if England win Euros as King Charles makes demand
England fans WILL be treated to a Bank Holiday if Gareth Southgate’s side win Euro 2024… should Prime Minister Keir Starmer get his way.
The Three Lions are set to take on Spain in the final on Sunday evening in Berlin, a game that Starmer will attend. They booked their spot after Ollie Watkins’ dramatic late goal against the Netherlands. Fans have called for a Bank Holiday should the Three Lions end their 58-year wait for a major trophy. And it appears that Starmer would be on board with the idea.
Asked if there will be an extra day off if England win on Sunday, he said: “We should certainly mark the occasion, I don’t want to jinx it. I went to the last Euros final, I don’t want to go through that again. I don’t want to jinx anything but we must mark it in some way. But the most important thing is getting it over the line on Sunday.”

Editorial 12 July 2024.
As it has been for much of this week, the front pages continue to be dominated by domestic politics and football. Friday sees stories on prison reform, the prime minister’s first overseas trip to attend a Nato summit in Washington, the two-child benefit cap and the rise in the value of the pound on the foreign currency markets.
Elsewhere, almost all of the front pages splash on the England football team ahead of the European Championship final on Sunday. England will face Spain at the Olympiastadion Berlin. The back pages continue the Euros coverage.
