Covid cases fall by 19% in a week and death toll plateaus across globe
The Metro says The global tally of new Covid cases has fallen by 19% in a week as the death toll plateaus, according to the World Health Organization.
Just over 16 million new coronavirus infections and 75,000 deaths were reported worldwide between February 7 and 13, the UN health agency said.
Southeast Asia reported 37% fewer cases, the biggest drop globally.
Meanwhile, Russia saw the biggest number of new infections. Cases there and elsewhere in eastern Europe have doubled in recent weeks, driven by a surge of the infectious Omicron variant.
