Couple quit their jobs and ditch $3.5million home to live in a van with their four sons

Meet the couple who sold everything they owned – including their $3.5 million home – to live a motorhome with their four kids.

Landon Jones, 41, and his wife Kami, 33, decided to make a big life change by quitting their jobs and buying a 400-square-foot motorhome so that they could travel around the United States.

The couple felt the life they were living did not line up with their priorities. So, they took a leap of faith.

Besides their home, in Littleton, Colorado, USA, the couple also sold several vehicles and farming property worth $2.1 million.

The family of six now live on the road in a motorhome worth $500,000.

Prior to their life change, Landon had a lucrative job as a national sales director at medical tech company Stryker. Meanwhile, Kami was a stay-at-home mum.

His job had afforded the family a dream home, farming property and every luxury that a position at a Fortune 500 company can offer.

However, business life proved to be a struggle.

The couple wanted to focus on spending more time with their family and living a simpler lifestyle.

‘When we looked at our calendars, we saw that they didn’t mimic what our priorities where,’ Landon said.

‘We, as a family, decided that we really wanted to prioritise what mattered most to us, and at the top of that list was faith, and right under that was family.

‘Part of that is giving up some of our earthly possessions.’

In the summer of 2021, Landon gave the firm his six-month notice.

In April 2022, the family’s dream finally came true and they moved into a 400-square-foot motor home.

Their new home is fully equipped with a kitchenette, a bathroom, washing and drying machines and bunks to house all six family members.

Landon says he knows the family made the right decision.

‘At the end of the day, we were so convicted,’ he explained. ‘We have this small window of time, to raise these boys that god gave us, to raise them the right way.’

Landon and Kami began homeschooling their sons and they felt absolute freedom for the first time.

‘It was extremely liberating knowing that every single day, what we did, how we did it, and who we did it with, was at our discretion,’ Landon said.

‘For the first time the calendar was out the window and we were completely present, and we were able to be completely present with our children.’

The boys, Arlo, two, Otis, three, Winston, five, and Julius, seven, are homeschooled for a few hours per day and the rest is supplemented by their travels.

‘Learning has become so fun and we’re doing it together,’ Landon added.

‘There is an amazing community of people that live similar lifestyles to us.

‘So when we arrive at a campsite there’s an abundance of children that can relate to our boys.’

The family has received criticism for how extravagant their life appears with a 400sq-ft RV, but Landon acknowledges this with light humour.

He said: ‘To put it in perspective, it is a very nice RV.

‘But this is our everything, and the median cost of a home in Denver was $650,000.

‘We did not exceed that, and the RV was less than a tenth the cost of our old home.’
