The release of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on Netflix has resulted in viewers falling head over heels for a brand new love story in the franchise.

The passionate relationship between Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and King George III (Corey Mylchreest) when they are first married endures until their older years, when they are played by Golda Rosheuvel and James Fleet.

While the Bridgerton prequel spin-off was billed as a limited series, many fans are hoping there could be a season 2, considering there is so much more about the royal couple’s life that could be told in future stories.

So could there be a second season of the show?

Creator Shonda Rhimes has addressed the possibility during a recent interview, sparking hope that it may not be too farfetched an idea.

Could there be a Queen Charlotte season 2?

Shonda, who’s worked with Bridgerton author Julia Quinn to create a new book focused on Queen Charlotte’s journey, admitted that while there ‘have been questions’ about a second season of the new spin-off, she’s ‘not having conversations about it yet’.

Nonetheless, she did still offer some interesting nuggets of information implying that it may not be a definite no in future.

‘I could live with Charlotte and George forever, but we told a very specific, closed-ended story that I think is a complete tale of this complicated, imperfect love,’ she told Entertainment Weekly.

‘But I’m not ruling anything out because I never know.’

During a recent conversation with Metro.co.uk, Golda also shared her views on whether she would return for future seasons of Queen Charlotte, should the possibility arise.

‘Opportunities, possibilities… I’m all for that, absolutely. I said the other day, wouldn’t it be great to see what Lady Featherington’s about? “Lady Featherington: A Bridgerton Story.” I think that’d be really cool. I think Polly [Walker] would be up for that, definitely,’ she answered.
