Roy Cropper (David Neilson) gets a helping hand from an unlikely person in Coronation Street soon as he plans a Christmas present for best friend Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman).
Roy and Evelyn have grown close this year. A few months ago, Roy wrote a letter to Evelyn before his heart operation detailing how much she means to him.
Evelyn was incredibly moved but as she made her way over to the hospital with the intention of telling Roy how she feels, she was interrupted by Yasmeen (Shelley King).
When Roy returned home, he spent a lot of time with Yasmeen as they bonded over shared interests.

While Roy enjoyed himself, he didn’t notice Evelyn growing increasingly jealous.
Not that we’d ever tell her that.
Coming up, there’s a disaster in the cafe just days away from Christmas as Roy suffers a spasm in his back.

Debbie (Sue Devaney) helps him upstairs while Evelyn pops on a pinny and assures Roy she’ll cover his shift.
Noticing their friendship, Cassie (Claire Sweeney) later finds Roy and comes up with a gift idea from him to Evelyn.

Towards the end of the week, Roy confides in Cassie that he’s located the Christmas present for Evelyn. Cassie decides to accompany Roy on the trip but when the Woody fails to start, she’s quick to come up with an alternative.
On Christmas Day, in the cafe, a tipsy Evelyn and Mary (Patti Clare) help Roy prepare the Christmas dinner.

With time to themselves, Evelyn opens her present from Roy and is genuinley touched to see what he’s bought her.
After a little help from Cassie, Roy’s plan looks to be a success.
