Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) has been left disappointed by husband Billy Mayhew’s (Daniel Brocklebank) reluctance to have sex in recent Coronation Street scenes, and plans to get things back on track were thwarted after a devastating update on Paul’s life expectancy.

During a breakfast at the café, Paul opened up to David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) about Billy’s current problem with intimacy, during which David revealed that he had been the same when wife Shona (Julia Goulding) had had her brain injury.

He revealed that it felt like he would be taking advantage, though when Paul said that it was what he wanted, David advised him to talk to Billy.

Before they had the chance to chat, Paul headed to the hospital with mum Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove), where his MND specialist was keen to do some tests based on his new cough.

Billy was soon able to join them in the appointment, and the specialist explained that she could send off a form to help Paul get his PIP application fast tracked.

When she told him what form she was filling in, Paul recognised it from something he’d read online, and revealed that it was normally used for people who only have six to twelve months left to live.

The specialist explained that it wasn’t cut and dry, but broke the bad news that they suspected this was how long Paul would have left, leaving him, Bernie and Billy completely devastated.

After returning home, still in shock from the hospital appointment, Paul broached the subject of sex with Billy once more, and when Billy asked if he was sure after the news he’d just had, Paul pointed out that he wanted to make the most of the time they had left together.

However, things took a turn for the worse when Billy later tried to help Paul out of the bath and ended up putting his back out.

With the pair stuck in the bathroom, they had no choice but to call Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) for help, and along with Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) he soon came to the rescue.

Though their evening of passion didn’t quite go to plan, it was clear that Billy and Paul intended to make the most of what time they had left together in the wake of Paul’s tragic news.
