Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) and Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) are about to get an unwanted early Christmas present in Coronation Street as Joseph Brown’s (William Flanagan) grandma returns.
Played by Jacqueline Leonard, Linda’s storylines usually involve her flashing the cash and inadvertently reminding Gemma and Chesney that their wage packets allow them to only just about get by.
Coming up, the Winter/Brown family head to court and are devastated when Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) is sentenced to three months in prison for handling stolen goods.
Back at Number 5, Joseph – who will end up in hospital soon after being poisoned – complains of a headache. As Gemma goes to find some painkillers, Caitlin arrives and is unimpressed with the scene.

Later in the week, Ches calls at the flower shop flat, apologises to Gemma for having a go at her and tells her how much he loves her.

Gemma hugs Chesney while in tears, but she’s left worried when he announces that Linda is coming to stay.
Discussing these upcoming scenes, boss Iain MacLeod enthused: ‘Joseph’s fairy godmother turns up in the shape of Linda. She decides that she’s going to fix Joseph’s school troubles, and starts throwing money at the situation, which puts Chesney and Gemma in this impossible quandary.

‘It doesn’t feel right that Linda is wading in with her chequebook and saving the day. But on the other side of it, they have to prioritise what’s right for Joseph, who is having a hard time and could do with the support.

‘It’s a lot of fun in places but we were trying to tell a very realistic story about family dynamic. It’s interesting because Gemma is not Joseph’s biological mother so there are tensions around that – does Chesney side with Joseph and Linda and biology? Or does he side more with Gemma?
