Gary had some unexpected advice for Liam (Picture: ITV)
Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) has been facing torment from vile bully Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan) and his cronies for months now in Coronation Street, but recent scenes saw him finally confide his troubles in Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) and Gary Windass (Mikey North).
After Mason stole his phone and shoved him against a wall, Liam set off the school’s fire alarm and made a run for it, but was unfortunately caught by the teachers.
When Maria was phoned and informed of the situation, she soon sat Liam down, determined to get to the bottom of his school troubles once and for all.
Having learnt what Liam had been putting up with, Maria was determined to contact the school, though Liam begged her not to in fear that it would make things worse.

However, it later became clear that things with Mason were already escalating, when Jake informed Liam that his bully had contacted him over his Xbox, instructing him to pass on a message to Liam.
Jake repeated that he needed to meet Mason the next day to get his phone back, but Liam instructed Jake to ignore the message entirely, knowing that meeting Mason would just result in a fight.
When Liam later spoke to Gary about his experiences at school, Gary revealed that the only language bullies understood was violence.

This got Liam thinking, and he asked Gary if he wasn’t targeted by bullies because they knew he’d fight back, but he said that this wasn’t the case.
Gary made it clear that he didn’t think violence was the answer and that Laim should let him and Maria deal with it properly, but it was too late for Liam, who had already decided what to do.
Pulling Jake aside, he asked him to message Mason back telling him that the meeting was on.
