The timing is terrible (Picture: ITV)
Recently in Coronation Street, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) found herself getting arrested for handling stolen goods.
The decision to meet up with Big Garth to try and flog the remaining gear came after Bernie learnt it’ll take around 11 weeks for Paul’s (Peter Ash) benefits to come through.
As she chatted with her mate in the precinct, Bernie remained unaware a police officer was taking photographs of them.
Returning home, Bernie’s smile was wiped from her face when she ended up being taken away in a police car.
At first, Bernie was confident and told Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) they didn’t need to worry about her facing any consequences.
This week, however, Bernie headed to court and pleaded guilty, later breaking the news to dying Paul that she may get six months behind bars – which means not being around for her son’s final Christmas.

Coming up, duty solicitor Joel (Calum Lill) tells Bernie that she needs to prepare herself for a custodial sentence.
Facing the prospect of not being around as 2023 ends, Bernie finds Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and says that she might be in prison over the festive period.

But can the family deal with this?

‘When they need her the most she’s not going to be there again. She should have that kind of tattooed on her arm as a reminder. Because it’s just another pattern, isn’t it? And it is the truth she has never been needed more and she has let them down.
‘By trying to help them she hasn’t thought through the possible consequences and now they are the ones paying the price of potentially not having her around. She’s in a mess.’
