Gemma got horrible news (Picture: ITV)
Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) had a lot on her plate in recent Coronation Street scenes which saw her try to organise early Christmas for her family while step-son Joseph (William Flanagan) remained in hospital.
With Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) facing a stretch in prison and Paul Foreman’s (Peter Ash) diagnosis with motor neurone disease, the family were desperate to have what could be their last Christmas together.
For this reason, they organised to have Christmas Day early, though it nearly didn’t go ahead after Joseph was rushed to hospital having been accidentally poisoned by Gemma.
However, Joseph was adamant that he still wanted the day to go ahead, so Chesney (Sam Aston) sent Gemma home to prepare while he waited for Joseph to be discharged.
Back at home, Gemma wondered what was taking Chesney and Joseph so long, completely unaware that Chesney had received a shocking visitor.

As they were preparing to leave, Chesney was approached by the doctor and another woman called Caitlin, who revealed that she was from child protection services.
Caitlin explained that because Joseph’s poisoning occurred after the incident with Bertie that happened under Gemma’s care earlier this year, she had no choice but to investigate.
When Chesney and Joseph arrived home with Caitlin, Gemma was stunned, and agreed to go somewhere quiet to talk to Caitlin.

Caitlin explained that Gemma was probably a really good mum, but they couldn’t take any risks and had no other option than to start an investigation.
Gemma was then left devastated when Caitlin revealed that this meant she couldn’t live with her children until the investigation had concluded, and would only be able to have supervised visits. If she broke these conditions, then her children would be taken into care.
