Evelyn’s been through this before (Picture: ITV)
As Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) attempts to build a relationship with his biological mother Cassie (Claire Sweeney) in Coronation Street, Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) continues to watch from the sidelines, convinced it won’t be long until Cassie relapses.
Cassie broke the news to Tyrone that she’s his mother a few weeks ago. It happened in a dramatic few seconds which left Tyrone struggling to process things initially.
At his home, Tyrone listened as Evelyn revealed that she had known about Cassie being alive for the best part of a year, meaning that she attended Ty and Fiz’s (Jennie McAlpine) wedding last Christmas knowing Cassie could’ve been there to watch.

As Tyrone tries his best to get to know Cassie, she heads to the pub in upcoming episodes and chooses to take part in a game of gin rummy with Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Kirk (Andy Whyment).
When Ty arrives, he finds Cassie three sheets to the wind and drags her home.
At No.9, Tyrone hands Cassie a pint of water and tells her that he’s proud of how well she’s doing with her recovery, but she mustn’t blow it.
Will it all end in tears? (Picture: ITV)
Towards the end of the week, Tyrone hands Cassie £20 and asks her to buy something for tea.
However, as Tyrone returns from the dentist, he learns that Cassie hasn’t got back from the shops.
Fully aware of what could happen, Evelyn tells Tyrone that he should expect the worst.
Eventually, Cassie gets back, but what state will she be in?
‘She’s just never had that loving environment or the family,’ Claire Sweeney said.

‘She’s had bad men, she had a mum who didn’t want to know. All she wants is to be loved and be part of a family. That’s evident in scenes, simple things just like sitting having a cup of tea and watching the kids get ready and stuff. I did a scene yesterday. We were just walking to the bus stop and it’s like the best thing she’s ever done in her life.
‘You know, she’s never had any of that. But she wants part of it. And the fact that Evelyn has had that and kept it from her and then told him she was dead is a lot for her to deal with.’
